Manila Water Co. Inc. of trilyonaryo Enrique K. Razon Jr. is set to complete a 7P.84-billion water supply project next month, adding up to 200 million liters per day (MLD) of treatment capacity as the utility diversifies its sources beyond Angat Dam.
The East Bay Phase 2 Water Supply System Project, scheduled for completion in September, will draw raw water from the eastern flank of Laguna Lake and serve about two million residents across Pasig, Pateros, Taguig and parts of Rizal province.
The project is part of Manila Water’s effort to diversify its supply sources and reduce reliance on Angat Dam, which currently provides more than 90% of Metro Manila’s potable water needs.
The project centers on a water treatment plant and intake facility in Pakil, Laguna. Treated water will travel through land pipelines spanning Pakil and Jalajala before passing through a submarine pipeline across Laguna Lake toward Binangonan and Cardona for integration into Manila Water’s distribution network.
“Their collaboration has been instrumental in advancing this critical infrastructure project, which will help ensure a more reliable and sustainable water supply for the communities we serve,” Manila Water Corporate Communications Group head Dittie Galang said in a statement.
Phase 2 will add to Manila Water’s alternative water sources, which include the 100 MLD Cardona treatment plant, the 50 MLD East Bay Phase 1 facility and the 80 MLD Calawis treatment plant.
Once operational, the new facility will give Manila Water greater flexibility to manage supply across its concession area while providing additional capacity to meet growing demand.
