The government has launched a dedicated artificial intelligence and scale-up center aimed at helping micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) adopt new technologies and gain access to international markets.
The facility, housed at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) office in Makati City, will provide training and resources to help small businesses use AI tools and upgrade their operations.
“For small and medium enterprises, they really should not be scared of AI, but they should use AI as a driver for them to succeed,” Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque said at the launch.
Roque said the initiative forms part of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s push to improve digital infrastructure and internet connectivity, particularly in rural areas, to help local businesses scale up and produce competitive exports.
Bilyonaryo Dennis Anthony Uy, CEO of fiber broadband provider Converge ICT Solutions, said better connectivity and workforce skills would be critical as businesses adopt AI.
“To transform our MSMEs, we must have infrastructure for AI readiness, connectivity, and upskill our people,” Uy said. “Artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept. It is already present-day, but at a new scale of efficiency and competitiveness.”
Uy said businesses would need to adapt to emerging technologies or risk losing ground to competitors that use AI more effectively.—Bilyonaryo.com
