The Department of Transportation has opened bidding for more than P1.24 billion worth of upgrades at Tacloban and Busuanga airports, covering airside facilities, airport buildings, an apron and a taxiway.
Tacloban Airport in Leyte accounts for the bulk of the projects, with two contracts carrying a combined approved budget of P840.75 million.
The larger contract, worth P695.25 million, covers the rehabilitation and improvement of the airport’s airside facilities.
A separate P145.50-million contract covers the continuation and construction of airport building facilities, with the work expected to take 910 calendar days, including predetermined unworkable days.
In Palawan, the DOTr has opened bidding for a P402.55-million project at Busuanga Airport covering site development and the initial construction of an apron and taxiway.
An apron is the area where aircraft are parked, loaded and serviced, while a taxiway provides a route for aircraft to move between different parts of an airport.
Bids for all three projects are due on Sept. 2, following pre-bid conferences scheduled for Aug. 19.
The DOTr said bidding will be conducted under the New Government Procurement Act using a non-discretionary pass-or-fail criterion.
Participation is restricted to Filipino citizens and qualified entities that meet the government’s Filipino ownership requirements.
