Trilyonaryo Enrique “Ricky” Razon Jr. remained in a league of his own in July, but billionaires Andrew Tan, Ramon Ang, and retail power couple Lucio and Susan Co also finished the month richer as the Philippine stock market staged a broad rebound.
Razon added $1.2 billion to his net worth, the biggest dollar month on month gain among the country’s ultra bilyonaryos. His estimated net worth rose 6% to $21.3 billion, based on Forbes data.
The ports and gaming tycoon maintained a commanding hold on the No. 1 spot, with a fortune more than six times that of runner-up Ramon Ang.
The San Miguel big boss also added $100 million, or 2.9%, to end July with an estimated net worth of $3.5 billion.
The biggest percentage surge belonged to Andrew Tan, whose fortune jumped 20% to $1.8 billion. The Alliance Global and Megaworld founder climbed one spot to sixth place, overtaking Lucio Co.
The Puregold and S&R tycoon still had a strong month, adding $200 million, or 13.3%, to bring his wealth to $1.7 billion. Tan’s faster rise, however, pushed Co down to seventh.
Co’s wife, Susan Co, made the biggest move in the standings. Her fortune climbed 14.3% to $1.6 billion, vaulting her two places to eighth and putting her ahead of Hans Sy and Herbert Sy.
The gains came as the Philippine Stock Exchange index advanced 3.3% in July, closing at 6,236.44 from 6,037.17 at the end of June.
The market raced from 6,069.26 on July 1 to a monthly closing high of 6,415.72 on July 20, a gain of nearly 5.7%, before sellers mounted a late comeback. The index surrendered 179.28 points, or 2.8%, from its peak but still finished the month comfortably higher.
Buyers prevailed in 13 of July’s 23 trading sessions, against 10 losing days.
Not everyone shared in the rally.
Lucio Tan suffered the month’s steepest dollar setback, losing $200 million, or 6.5%, to finish with $2.9 billion. He nevertheless retained third place.
Henry “Big Boy” Sy Jr. stayed in fourth despite a $100-million decline in his fortune to $2.6 billion, while Manuel Villar remained fifth after a similar drop to $2.3 billion.
Except for Big Boy, the Sy siblings now occupy the bottom five places in the 13-member rankings.
Hans Sy held steady at $1.5 billion in ninth place, followed by Herbert Sy at $1.4 billion. Harley Sy and Teresita Sy-Coson remained at $1.3 billion each, while Elizabeth Sy rounded out the list with $1.2 billion.
Robert Coyiuto Jr., who ranked 14th in June with $1.1 billion, dropped out last month.
The combined wealth ultra bilyonaryos in July rose by $500 million to $44.4 billion. On a like-for-like basis, excluding Coyiuto, the fortunes of the remaining 13 tycoons increased by a stronger $1.6 billion, or 3.7%.—Bilyonaryo.com
