Alex Eala may be raking in millions from her historic run on the international tennis circuit, but don’t expect the Filipino tennis sensation to splurge on luxury cars or designer handbags anytime soon.
Instead, the 21-year-old says the smartest thing she’s done with her growing fortune is invest in her future.
Fresh off the biggest payday of her career at Wimbledon, where she pocketed about P25 million after becoming the first Filipino singles player to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam, Eala revealed that she’s taking a surprisingly low-key approach to her finances.
Speaking during a media conference hosted by the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), Eala said she’s focused on saving rather than spending and credits her parents and BPI for helping her stay grounded.
“My first big investment in general, not just with my earnings from Wimbledon, with my earnings in general, I invest in my future,” Eala said. “So I save a lot of money. I like to be cautious with my money. I’m still so young. So I am so lucky and blessed to be under the guidance of my parents, under the guidance of my family at BPI, to learn to manage that.”
It’s a refreshingly practical mindset for an athlete whose career earnings have already topped $2.649 million, more than P163 million.
According to the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), Eala has earned over $1.285 million in prize money during the 2026 season alone, as her breakout year continues to rewrite Philippine tennis history.
