Amazon Web Services is exploring a major cloud infrastructure push in the Philippines that could bring as much as $5 billion in investment over the next 15 years.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. met with AWS executives in Malacañang on Wednesday to discuss the proposed expansion, including the possible establishment of an AWS Region in the country.
An AWS Region is a network of data centers that allows cloud services to be hosted closer to local users, giving businesses, startups and government agencies faster and more secure access to computing power, storage, artificial intelligence tools, cybersecurity systems and data analytics.
The Presidential Communications Office said the project would support the administration’s goal of turning the Philippines into a regional hub for digital infrastructure.
If pursued, the investment could create high-value jobs, deepen the country’s cloud computing ecosystem and improve digital services across the public and private sectors.
