Ayaw magbayad ng franchise fee? US Potato Corner stalls rebrand as Undercover Fries after Po family’s trademark win

BILYONARYO.COM

Filipino netizens on Reddit are buzzing after noticing that several former Potato Corner stalls in the United States are now operating under a new name — Undercover Fries.

The sudden rebranding has sparked online discussions, with users pointing to a recent U.S. court decision recognizing Po-led Shakey’s Pizza Asia Ventures Inc. (SPAVI) as the exclusive owner of the Potato Corner trademark in the U.S.

This legal ruling compelled operator Guy Koren and PCJV USA LLC to stop using the brand name.

Koren had originally operated Potato Corner outlets under an agreement with the brand’s founders, Cinco Corporation, prior to SPAVI’s acquisition of the company in 2022.

According to some Redditors, citing reliable sources, the franchisee opted to rebrand after refusing to pay the franchising fees required by SPAVI.

However, failure to pay the proper franchise fee may also result in supply issues, as Potato Corner only provides products to legitimate franchisees.
