Move it or ticket: Dizon steps up enforcement of 45-second bus stop limit on Edsa

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has intensified efforts to improve traffic flow along the EDSA Busway, deploying enforcers to ensure bus drivers comply with the 45-second lay-by rule.

“I am happy to report that 90% of the 45-second timers at EDSA Busway stops are now operational,” Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said in a statement, emphasizing the agency’s push for stricter enforcement to prevent congestion.

To maintain compliance, the Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) has stationed two enforcers at each northbound and southbound bus stop. These personnel are tasked with reminding drivers to adhere to the time limit to prevent bottlenecks.

With timers and enforcers in place, bus drivers will eventually adapt to this system, Dizon said, urging operators to cooperate to ensure a smooth busway operation.

The DOTr is also expediting repairs on remaining station timers to enhance the system’s efficiency, while simultaneously improving commuter accessibility.

Dizon noted that the steep ramp at Philam Station has been repaired, and its elevator is undergoing maintenance to improve access for persons with disabilities.

The latest measures reflect the government’s push to modernize Metro Manila’s transportation network and alleviate traffic congestion on one of its busiest thoroughfares.
