The European Union has approved €1.5 million in humanitarian aid to assist those severely impacted by Typhoon Trami (tropical storm Kristine) in the Philippines.
This funding aims to enhance relief efforts, particularly for displaced individuals in the Bicol and Calabarzon regions.
Typhoon Kristine traversed Luzon, Visayas, and northern Mindanao, causing extensive flooding and landslides that resulted in substantial casualties and destruction. Almost one million people were displaced, with approximately seven million affected overall.
This latest aid package is in addition to the €4.5 million already designated for the Philippines this year. Earlier assistance of nearly €2 million was provided in response to other natural disasters affecting Mindanao and other areas in February, July, and September 2024.
