Seasoned legal mind Rogelio Quevedo joins SEC as new commissioner

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) welcomes the appointment of Atty. Rogelio V. Quevedo as its newest commissioner.

Quevedo fills the vacancy left by the passing of Atty. Hubert Dominic B. Guevara in March this year.

“We give our warmest welcome to Atty. Quevedo, whose decades of experience in corporate law and government service will help the Commission navigate new and emerging trends in the business sector,” SEC chairman Emilio B. Aquino said.

Quevedo previously headed the Office of the Government Corporate Counsel, the legal backbone for government-owned and controlled corporations. Throughout his career, he has served in various capacities for esteemed institutions like the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Board and the Presidential Management Staff.

Prior to his government service, Quevedo held a senior executive position in a telecommunications company.

He also boasts a strong academic background, having served as a professor of commercial and civil law at the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law, where he additionally supervised the legal aid program.

Quevedo holds degrees in both economics and law from UP. He further distinguished himself by placing 10th in the 1981 Bar Exams. Quevedo’s impressive academic journey continued with a Master of Laws from Louisiana State University and a Doctor of the Science of Jurisprudence from Tulane University in New Orleans.

With his legal expertise and experience across various sectors, Quevedo is well-positioned to contribute significantly to the SEC’s mission of protecting investors and promoting a healthy business environment.
