Goodbye GMA Pinoy TV? Gozon reportedly eyeing iWantTFC for streaming content abroad

Bilyonaryo Felipe Gozon reportedly plans to shut down the operations of its international paid television channel, GMA Pinoy TV, due to underwhelming demand.

There are reports that the chairman and chief executive officer of GMA Network Inc. will instead utilize ABS-CBN’s streaming platform, iWantTFC, to make news and entertainment content available overseas.

The reported move aligns with the content collaboration and distribution deal signed by GMA and ABS-CBN last April that spans Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Europe, and North Africa.

GMA Pinoy TV was launched in 2005 as a way of capturing a share of the lucrative overseas Filipino market, which for years had been monopolized by ABS-CBN’s The Filipino Channel (TFC).
