Empowering the Visayas grid: Yuchengco family’s PetroWind Energy ramps up capacity in Aklan to 50 MW

Yuchengco-led PetroWind Energy Inc. (PWEI) has commenced the expansion of phase 2 for the Nabas Wind Power Project in Nabas-Malay, Aklan, aiming to elevate its energy production capacity from 36 megawatts (MW) to 50MW by 2024.

The expansion initiative entails the incorporation of six additional wind turbine generators, complementing the existing 18 from Phase 1, aligning with PWEI’s commitment to providing clean and renewable energy to the Visayas grid.

Before embarking on phase 2 construction, PWEI diligently obtained all required permits from the Department of Energy (DoE) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), as well as other pertinent national regulatory agencies.

The project received approval from the host Barangays and local government units, securing endorsements and clearances.

Yrel Ventura, senior manager for environment and community relations manager of PGEC, said: “The commencement of this project underscores our commitment to help address the growing demand for power in the Visayas grid while fostering sustainable development in the countryside and long-term partnerships with our stakeholders.”
