A new chapter: Engr. Fortunato Leynes assumes role as TransCo president

The National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) announced the appointment of its new president, Engr. Fortunato “Atoy” C. Leynes, effective November 10, 2023.

In his role as TransCo president, Leynes will oversee the direction and operations of the corporation, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and objectives while faithfully executing the corporation’s mandates.

With over 40 years of extensive experience in all facets of the power industry, including generation, transmission, distribution, and supply, Leynes brings a wealth of knowledge to the position.

Leynes has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to the energy sector, receiving awards and accolades both locally and internationally. Notable among these honors are the 2014 Outstanding Electrical Engineer of the Philippines award from the Philippine Professional Regulation Commission, the Excellence Award for Publication and Rating from Nigeria, and the 2018 Thomasian Engineer Hall of Fame Award from the University of Santo Tomas (UST), his alma mater.

In addition to his accomplishments, Leynes has served as a member of the faculties of UST, Mapua Institute of Technology, Far Eastern University (FEU), and the Meralco Power Academy.

(Nasecore) has criticized the Energy Regulatory Commission for permitting bilyonaryo Manny Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company to charge consumers the provisional interim average rate of P1.3810 per kilowatt hour from July 2016 to the present.
