San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President and CEO Ramon Ang may be used to calling the shots as a corporate boss, but when it comes to basketball-related matters, he’d rather that fellow bilyonaryo Manny Pangilinan be in charge.
Ang and Pangilinan worked together to assemble the Gilas Pilipinas team that competed in the FIBA World Cup and the Asian Games, which led to the country’s first gold medal in 61 years.
Pangilinan is the main benefactor of the national team while Ang provided additional funding and manpower.
“Sa basketball or sa SBP (Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas), we always follow MVP,” Ang said in an interview with One News’ Cheryl Cosim.
“Pagdating sa basketball na ‘yan, all-out support kami kay MVP.”
Teams backed by the MVP Group and San Miguel Corp. are the biggest rivals in the Philippine Basketball Association.
