Cinemalaya opens call for entries from independent filmmakers

Following its highly successful 19th edition, the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival is now accepting entries for its 2025 full-length film category.

As the festival approaches its 20th anniversary, it continues its mission to support innovative and exceptional filmmaking in the Philippines.

Filmmakers aiming to leave their mark in the industry have until November 17 at 6 pm to submit their works. Entries can be submitted online or in person at the Film, Broadcast, and New Media Division office located at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Annex Building, Vicente Sotto St., Pasay City.

Each participant is allowed to submit a maximum of three entries, but only one entry per proponent may advance as a finalist. Any works already in principal photography or post-production before July 2024 are ineligible, except for documentaries.

Both film and television productions, along with projects from local streaming platforms, are eligible for submission as long as they are not commissioned projects but originated from the filmmaker as the proponent. Commissioned works from commercial platforms will not be considered.

By February 2, 2024, the Cinemalaya Competition Committee will choose 30 promising submissions, and their proponents will be invited to pitch their projects. This initial selection will then be narrowed down to 20 entries, whose proponents will undergo the Cinemalaya Film Lab, a comprehensive three-month mentorship program.

This program will involve experts in various aspects of filmmaking, including scriptwriting, directing, cinematography, performance, editing, production design, sound, music, production management, and promotional strategies.
