Music to no one’s ears: Spotify raises subscription fees

Spotify has joined the list of streaming platforms which have raised subscription fees, with its Premium service set to cost P149 monthly starting December 2023.

In a notice sent to subscribers, Spotify said the monthly fee for individual accounts will be hiked from the current P129, while shared family accounts will be charged P239 from the current rate of P194.

Spotify’s new fees will make it more expensive than Apple Music, which offers individual subscription at P139 monthly. The equivalent family plan is priced at P219/month, with up to six users allowed to use the subscription.

Subscription to Spotify Premium gives subscribers the privilege of listening to music and podcasts without any ads or restrictions. Content could also be downloaded for listening offline.

The audio quality for Spotify Premium subscribers is also better at 320 kbps, compared to the 150 kbps for free app users.
