International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) of bilyonaryo Enrique K. Razon, has bolstered its operations in Australia with the introduction of state-of-the-art automated cranes.
The recent arrival of two new ship-to-shore (STS) cranes marks a significant enhancement for the Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT), enabling it to efficiently handle the largest container ships arriving in Australia.
Distinguished as the largest automated cranes in Australia, these giants boast an impressive lift height of 49 meters, surpassing the existing five STS cranes at the terminal by an additional 10 meters.
In terms of operational capacity, the new cranes outshine their predecessors by accommodating 22 containers across a vessel, thanks to their 60-meter boom outreach. This surpasses the capabilities of the previous cranes, which could only manage 19 containers.
Moreover, the newly acquired cranes offer heightened productivity, with their platforms positioned at a remarkable 15-meter elevation, a substantial improvement compared to the previous cranes that restricted pinning activities to the quay level.
Bruno Porchietto, VICT’s chief executive officer, expressed the terminal’s readiness to welcome the largest vessels as part of the global trend of upsizing among major shipping lines.
He emphasized VICT’s unique position as the only Melbourne terminal capable of accommodating these supersized vessels, predicting an increase in their presence in Phillips Bay.
VICT stands out as Australia’s premier fully automated container terminal and ranks among the world’s most advanced port facilities.
The acquisition of these cutting-edge cranes is a major component of the AUD235 million expansion project, which will substantially boost the terminal’s capacity to 1.25 million TEUs.
