Heiress to the Ayala Group Mariana Zobel de Ayala doused fears about possible layoffs in the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) as it uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology in its banking services.
The BPI Vice President for Consumer Bank Marketing and Digital Platforms said the bank’s new AI-heavy mobile app is not a replacement for human bankers.
“At BPI, we’ve been very clear that this is an opportunity to relieve people of having to do day-to-day administrative tasks. It will give them more time to focus on value-adding services, which means that they will grow in their careers,” Zobel de Ayala said on ANC’s Headstart. “It’s a moment of upskilling for all of us.”
Here’s what Mariana expects to see among employees.
“We really want those in our branches, our relationship managers and bankers to spend time giving advice rather than having to manage paperwork,” she added.
