The Land Transportation Office (LTO) said it will take “a little over two years” to finish the printing of 13 million motorcycle plates part of its backlog.
LTO Chairman Vigor Mendoza said during a Senate hearing that production has been delayed with limited supply of the metal plates as well as machines under maintenance.
The official backlog tally includes 80,000 motor vehicle plates. LTO said it has ordered 15.9 million license plates, with the supplier deliver around 1 million so far.
Newly-purchased motorcycles and big bikes will be spared from the long wait, Mendoza promised.
“By some time in October, kapag nakabili kayo ng motorsiklo, eh mabibigyan muna natin ng plaka yan para di madagdagan yung backlog,” he added.
