The Anti-Red Tape Authority expects better internet speeds in the Philippines as telecommunications companies will be having an easier time constructing more cell towers.
ARTA Director General Ernesto Perez told CNN Philippines that the approval process for constructing cell towers has been simplified.
“Ang pinaka-immediate benefit nito ay mapapabilis ang pag-construct and pag-operate ng mga towers,” Perez said. “Dahil mapapabilis ang permitting and licensing at pagconstruct and pag-operate ng towers, mapapabilis ang internet connection.”
Speed test platform Ookla has noted some improvement in internet connectivity in the Philippines, but ranked at 91st out of 145 countries based on average mobile internet speeds.
The global average is 43.20 Mbps but the United Arab Emirates topped the list with 210.89 Mbps. The Philippine average mobile speed is 25.47 Mbps for August 2023.
