Congressman Ralph Recto finds himself at a crossroads, contemplating whether to join President Marcos’ Cabinet or run for Governor in his home province of Batangas.
A Babbler said the three-term senator has not yet responded to President Marcos’ offer to take over as Secretary of the Department of Finance.
But Recto appears hesitant on leaving politics to lead the administration’s economic team as he remains.
Babbler said Recto is giving serious thought to running for Batangas Governor in the 2025 election. His wife, the renowned actress Vilma Santos, previously held this role from 2007 to 2016.
The current Governor, Hermilando “Dodo” Mandanas, who also served as Governor from 1995 to 2004, is currently in his third and final term.
Babbler said the President has been actively looking for a replacement of Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno whose tenure has been marked by his inability to effectively control inflation, and his reluctance to take accountability for this underwhelming performance.
Bilyonaryo.com previously reported that Diokno was among those being considered to head the Maharlika Investment Fund.
