Seasoned economist Romy Bernardo has written his final column for Business World as he assumes a new role as Monetary Board member.
In his final column titled “Full Circle” published on Business World Monday (September 18), Bernardo expressed gratitude for his appointment to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Eli Remolona, ex-Prime Minister Cesar Virata, and his former bosses in the Department of Finance.
“I am most honored, delighted, and grateful for the opportunity to go back to my first love — public sector policy work,” he wrote.
“To ensure no conflict of interest, I am obligated to say goodbye to private institutions/corporations and colleagues/friends I worked with. I do so with a tinge of sadness,” Bernardo added.
With his return to public service, Bernardo is likewise giving up board seats in private corporations, his position as principal Philippine adviser to GlobalSource Partners, and consultancy contracts for development agencies like the World Bank.
Bernardo will serve in the Monetary Board for a six-year term.
