GMA Network of bilyonaryo Felipe Gozon appears to be losing some of its dominance since long-time rival ABS-CBN shut down three years ago.
In its latest financial report, GMA reported that its sister channel, GTV, has seen a drop in TV ratings.
According to GMA’s second-quarter financial report for 2023, “The company’s second free-to-air channel, Good TV or GTV, remained a strong contender in the top three positions in terms of ratings compared to other channels.”
As of the first quarter of this year, GMA stated that “GTV continued to hold a strong position in second place in terms of ratings compared to other channels.”
Although GMA did not explicitly state it, TV5 of bilyonaryo Manny V. Pangilinan took over the No. 2 spot as its tie up with the content provider, ABS-CBN, boosted its viewership from April to June.
Since ABS-CBN lost its franchise in 2020, GMA has consistently bragged about its two channels lording it over the TV ratings.
As of end-2022, GMA reported that GTV had an audience share of 11.8 percent, second only to its parent network with 44.4 percent.
The same report showed TV5 had an audience share of 10 percent which was good for third place.
