Former Finance Undersecretary Cielo Magno has returned to teaching following her controversial exit from the administration.
Magno, whose term of office was deemed “expired” by Malacañang after she posted a public critique of the Marcos Jr. administration’s price cap on rice, has rejoined the faculty of the University of the Philippines School of Economics for school year 2023-2024. She will be teaching a class on public economics for undergraduates.
Prior to joining the Marcos administration, Magno worked as an associate professor at UPSE. She was reportedly asked to resign earlier this month after throwing shade at President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s order to impose a price ceiling on rice.
The trigger for Magno’s removal was a Facebook post in which she shared a graph representing the law of supply and demand, which had the caption “I miss teaching” and a teacher emoji.
The law of supply and demand is an economic concept explaining how prices of commodities are influenced by the interplay between supply and consumer demand.
