Capturing John Lennon’s playful side: Rare photos from 1980

Longtime fans of John Lennon were delighted to see him in a different light when a Facebook page devoted to the Beatles singer-songwriter shared several previously unseen photos.

These photos showed Lennon wearing cheeky grins, making silly faces, and smiling broadly—a departure from his typically serious demeanor.

In a series of four black and white snapshots taken in 1980 by photographer Jack Mitchell, Lennon revealed a different facet of his character that his dedicated fans cherished.

Although these photos were originally intended for the cover of a book, the publishers ultimately chose a more serious-looking portrait.
