What do the Monterrazas de Cebu luxury estate and Manila Bay reclamation projects have in common? They were greenlit by one executive of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The involvement of Engr. William Cuñado, head of the DENR Environmental Impact Assessment and Management division, in Manila Bay reclamation projects, came to light amid the mostly negative online buzz generated by Monterrazas de Cebu, which is being built on a Cebu mountainside.
Netizens learned that Cuñado signed the environmental clearance for both the Monterrazas de Cebu and approved the reclamation projects in Manila Bay, which were recently halted by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Some netizens have dubbed Cuñado as the “nature destroyer” for pushing for projects which would ruin the environment, an irony considering the agency he’s working at.
