Social media is abuzz over a luxury condominium project marketed by civil engineer and content creator Slater Young, which would be constructed in Cebu’s mountains.
“The Rise at Monterrazas” is located along Monterrazas de Cebu, Guadalupe, Cebu City. Young launched a scale model of the project on his YouTube channel.
Netizens are flagging the project for environmental risks, with some fearing that it would make flooding worse as several trees will be cut down for the construction of the residential units. Ironically, the project tried to mimic the mountain’s natural landscape using steel and cement — a nod to the rice terraces.
ABS-CBN News reported that the posh project had been a concept since the mid-2000s but was denied environmental permits in 2008 and 2011. It only appeared to have gotten permits recently.
The project was blamed for the flooding in Brgy. Guadalupe and nearby areas in Cebu City.
Its development permit was revoked twice — in 2008 and 2011.
Its Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) was approved by the following Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) in 2007. https://t.co/3NRUECbHwN pic.twitter.com/iTY6UvGTL5

Young branded the project as sustainable and eco-friendly, but netizens pointed out just what it took to build it.
Grabe tuwang tuwa mga tao sa fb sa monterrazas dahil green architecture 😭 they're literally destroying a mountain 😭 iba talaga nagagawa ng influencer, galing mag market ni slater. Trading our natural resources for the luxury of the few 💀

Funny how some of my FB friends are making neutral stand in the case of Monterrazas De Cebu while opposing the dolomite sand beach, reclamation in Manila Bay, construction of Kaliwa Dam, and many more just for the sake of "professionalism."
What happened to y'all?

Nasa likod ng village ko itong Monterrazas. So imagine nyo nalang, a light rain would turn into a massive flooding since they started construction and unti-unti nila kinalbo ung mountain until halata kalbo na due to massive construction.
