Comedian Joey De Leon took time off from his busy schedule to appear in court as the legal fight for the copyright to “Eat Bulaga” progresses.
De Leon took the witness stand at the Marikina Regional Trial Court Branch 273 for the first hearing of the copyright infringement case that he and brothers Tito and Vic Sotto filed against TAPE Inc., the production firm behind “Eat Bulaga.”
The comedian underwent direct and cross examination regarding his claim that it was he who coined the name, “Eat Bulaga!” for the noontime show back when it was conceptualized for RPN 9 four decades ago.
The comedic trio known as TVJ wants the court to stop TAPE from using any artistic element of “Eat Bulaga!”, including its jingle and logo design. The comedians also want the Jalosjos-owned firm to stop airing previous episodes of the show on any platform.
In addition, TVJ is seeking the payment of P20 million in damages from TAPE for damages.
