New Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Eli Remolona candidly admitted that he has long wanted to work for the Philippine central bank.
However, he didn’t think he would take the BSP’s helm despite his extensive background working for foreign monetary authorities. Remolona holds a PhD in economics from Stanford University.
“It would have been a dream for me, makasali lang sa BSP. I don’t think I would be governor,” he told Manila Bulletin columnist Fil Sionil.
“I was hoping to join in some capacity. I was just so happy being one of the members of the Monetary Board,” the veteran banker added.
Remolona, a former US Federal Reserve and Bank of International Settlements economist, joined BSP in August 2022 as a Monetary Board member. Less than a year later, he moved offices as central bank governor.
