Nalulugi daw? TVJ claims Jalosjos’ TAPE raking in nearly P2 billion a year from ‘Eat Bulaga’

Tito, Vic and Joey (TVJ), the face and spirit of “Eat Bulaga”, are disputing allegations made by former Congressman Romy Jalosjos that the long-running noontime show has been losing money.

In their infringement case against TAPE, TVJ revealed that Eat Bulaga has been funneling P1.824 billion annually or P5.827 million daily into the bank account of the Jalosjos-controlled production outfit.

TVJ stated in their affidavit that Jalosjos’ claims of massive losses incurred by TAPE from Eat Bulaga are “erroneous and baseless.”

They emphasized that Jalosjos has only been a passive investor in TAPE, while the show has been primarily steered by their partner, Tony Tuviera, since its inception in 1979 when Joey de Leon designed the show’s logo.

Jalosjos, who only started to take a direct hand in the show’s operations in the first quarter of 2023 when Tuviera was eased out of the show, suggested that the only way to reverse Eat Bulaga’s losses was to “reinvent” the show by introducing new segments, replacing the hosts and restructuring TAPE’s operations with the entry of his children.

This unwanted interference created an “internal turmoil” which led to the exodus of TVJ and their long-time collaborators from the show.

TVJ is using TAPE’s profits as the basis for the P17.482 million in damages they are seeking from TAPE for airing replays of Eat Bulaga for three days after TVJ and their co-hosts and creative staff resigned from the company on May 31.

This amount excludes P3.5 million in damages and attorney’s fees.

TVJ is being represented by DivinaLaw, headed by Dean Nilo Divina and senior partner Enrique “Buko” Dela Cruz Jr.

TAPE was established in July 1981, two years after Eat Bulaga’s first episode aired on Channel 9 under Production Specialists Inc. owned by Tuviera.

Tuviera holds a 25 percent stake in TAPE, while Jalosjos and his children Bullet (president), Steph Frederick (CFO), and Soraya each hold an eight percent stake.

TVJ firmly asserts that they have never been employees of PSI or TAPE.
