Canadian gold producer B2Gold is keen on expanding its operations in the Philippines, according to the Department of Finance (DOF).
This announcement was made via the DOF’s official Facebook page, as the economic team jumpstarted its investor roadshow engagements in Toronto, Canada.
B2Gold, an international senior gold producer headquartered in Vancouver, currently operates a gold mine in Masbate, Philippines.
During the investor roadshow, B2Gold’s VP for Government Relations, Neil Reeder, who previously served as Canada’s Ambassador to the Philippines, shared the company’s accomplishments in Masbate.
Reeder highlighted the company’s well-educated Filipino workforce, excellent relations with the Philippine government, sustainable mining efforts, and positive economic impact in the mining site.
In addition, the DOF said Reeder expressed B2Gold’s strong interest in expanding its operations within the Philippines.
Finance Secretary Benjamin E. Diokno, also present at the event, underscored the significant potential of the mining industry to contribute to the global supply chain.
With the Philippines being home to vast reserves of nickel, copper, gold, chromium, and iron, Diokno emphasized the government’s commitment to incentivize mining activities, strengthen transparency and accountability in the sector, and rationalize the mining fiscal regime.
These measures aim to enhance investor confidence while ensuring a fair share for the Philippine government.
