Boysen’s Justin Ongsue pulls out of Wack Wack elections

The board elections at Wack Wack Golf and Country Club have taken an intriguing twist with the withdrawal of a first-time candidate.

A Babbler said Justin Ongsue, the vice president for sales and operations of Pacific Paint (Boysen) Philippines and the chairman of Hi-Precision Diagnostics Center, has decided to drop out of the June 25 election.

Babbler said Justin Ongsue decided to withdraw from the board elections after a member raised concerns about a potential conflict of interest in the event of his successful bid for a board seat at the esteemed Wack Wack Golf and Country Club.

Ongsue’s wife is one of the owners of Cork Elite which opened a branch inside the Club a few months ago.

In a message to members, Ongsue said: Due to technicalities, I won’t be able to participate in this year’s election. I would like to return your ballots so you may exercise your right to vote. Or if you have other instructions please let me know.” He apologized for the “inconvenience” and thanked his supporters for their support.

Ongsue’s exit has triggered a mad scramble among the remaining candidates for the votes gathered by the Boysen heir.

Only 10 candidates are left vying for a seat on the nine-member board and only two of them are non-incumbents – Senator JV Ejercito and Ben T. Sy Jr.

Ejercito is actively campaigning to wrest control of the board from president Lawrence Tan, the son-in-law of miner Felipe Yap.

Ejercito, a former Club president, has accused Tan, his brothers and board allies of unruly behavior in the Club’s premises. He also blamed Tan and his alleged “mafia” for the deterioration in the Club’s facilities and greens.

Aside from Tan, other incumbents seeking reelection are are former Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr., Michael Eric DS Apelario Ong, Victoriano Borromeo, Leana Carmona, Frederick Chan, Virgilio Co, and Pablo Soon. The successful board members will collectively decide on who will assume the position of president.
