The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has lifted a pandemic-era rule that prohibited power distributors like Meralco from adjusting customers’ bill deposits.
The power industry regulator has recalled an April 2020 advisory that suspended any such adjustments to bill deposits, saying that economic activities have “normalized” after three years.
The bill deposit is an option for distributors to collect money from users as guarantee of payment, and is equivalent to the estimated one-month consumption of the household.
