Consunji-led Semirara Mining and Power Corp. (SMPC), has been fined P400,000 by the Philippine electric power regulator for non-compliance with reportorial requirements related to unplanned outages at its coal-fired power plants in 2019.
According to Semirara’s disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, its subsidiary Sem-Calaca Power Corporation (SCPC) received a decision from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on August 5, 2022, instructing the company to pay the penalty of P400,000.
The penalty stems from SCPC’s failure to submit outage occurrence and resumption of operation reports within the specified timeframe through short message service (SMS) for unplanned outages that occurred on February 12, 2019, April 27, 2019, as well as the resumption of operation on March 16, 2019, and May 5, 2019.
As a result of this non-compliance, the ERC has mandated SCPC to settle the penalty within 15 days upon receipt of the decision.
SCPC operates a 600-megawatt coal-fired thermal power plant located in Calaca, Batangas.
