Social media users were left disheartened as they shared footage yesterday of a distressing scene at bilyonaryo Andrew Tan’s Uptown Mall, where the ceiling gave way, leading to flooding.
The video showed the second floor submerged in water, while a miniature waterfall cascaded down to the first floor.
According to a netizen’s account, water seeped through the roof because the ceiling was allegedly made of gypsum board.
Although renowned for its heat absorption capabilities, the gypsum board proved woefully inadequate against water penetration. This alleged vulnerability resulted in the ceiling succumbing to the pressure of the overflow and ultimately giving way.
Speculation also arose about faulty drainage systems potentially contributing to the overflow. As a result, there was no shortage of disappointment among netizens who frequented the mall, considering its relatively new status compared to other shopping centers.
There were also discussions about the need to compensate tenants affected by the incident.
