In a stunning display of anger, a high-ranking official of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas launched a scathing verbal assault on a veteran business reporter during a prestigious international event.
According to our Babbler, witnesses were taken aback as the visibly agitated official openly reprimanded the reporter, seemingly oblivious to the presence of foreign officials who witnessed the entire confrontation.
The source of the official’s ire appears to be an article published by the reporter, which the official believes portrayed “the big boss” in a careless light. The incident unfolded when the big boss was interviewed to provide insights on another prominent figure’s comments regarding monetary policy stance.
In a fit of rage, the BSP official sternly warned the reporter against linking “my boss” to what they deemed a foolish remark, fearing it would result in two misguided statements concerning BSP interest rates.
Babbler said this heated incident sheds light on the inner workings of BSP politics, as the official’s actions were seemingly driven by a desire to secure the reappointment of the current governor. The official is said to be an ally of an influential ex-BSP governor.
“These events underscore the complex world of politics within the BSP. Former governors, like persistent leeches, continue to exert influence even after their official tenures have ended,” the Babbler said.
While the BSP prides itself on being an independent government financial institution, it appears that remnants of former chiefs still wield power through their loyal allies within the organization.
