Senator Raffy Tulfo has called out power generation companies for their alleged unconscionable greed, which he said has led to exorbitant bills for consumers.
During a virtual meeting with officials of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and Department of Energy (DOE) on May 1, Tulfo urged the government to step in to stop the supposed excessive profiteering of gencos.
The senator said power prices in the Philippines should be following an international downtrend, but this has not been observed recently.
“One of the reasons why many foreign investors are hesitant to set up their business in the Philippines is because of the expensive electricity cost,” he added.
Tulfo said he will soon set a Senate hearing to get details on the country’s power supply and problems.
