San Miguel Corporation’s power arm, SMC Global Power Holdings Corp. (SMGP), aims to reintegrate the 1,200-MW Ilijan natural gas plant to the national grid by May 26, assuring additional energy supply during the critical summer month.
The Ilijan plant, which has been undergoing retrofitting works since June last year, will be fueled by the country’s first-ever liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo recently delivered by SMGP.
The company’s president, Ramon S. Ang, said the reintegration would enhance energy supply security in the country, especially if all available power facilities operate as expected.
The ongoing construction of the country’s first LNG import terminal by Atlantic, Gulf, and Pacific International Holdings (AG&P) paved the way for the use of LNG as a cleaner source of power.
