The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has expressed support for the expansion of the Iloilo commercial port amid ultra bilyonaryo Enrique Razon’s plan to take over its operations.
PPA Commercial Services Department Manager Mark Jon Palomar said plans to expand three international ports in Visayas and Mindanao to help decongest seaports in Manila.
“We need to improve facilities in order for them to receive these large ships,” Palomar told senators in a Wednesday hearing.
The two other ports that PPA plans to expand are the Sasa Port in Davao City and the one in General Santos City.
Razon’s ICTSI has expressed interest in bidding for the operations of the Iloilo and General Santos ports, similar to how it is running the Manila container yard and seaport.
Bilyonaryo Mikee Romero’s GlobalPort has bagged the contract for Sasa Port in 2022.
