The Philippines’ longest-running noontime variety show, “Eat Bulaga,” was at risk of a major overhaul due to a feud between its stakeholders. But it looks like the crisis has been averted, at least for now.
According to a Babbler , the iconic hosts of “Eat Bulaga” (RB) – Tito, Vic & Joey (TVJ) – and the children of former congressman Romy Jalosjos have agreed to maintain the status quo after a make-or-break meeting on April 11.
Babbler said the Jalosjos children – who took over management of EB’s producer, TAPE, at the start of 2023 – have reportedly accepted the terms made by TVJ.
Babbler said the Jalosjos children have agreed not replace anyone in EB’s production staff except for some portions in the program.
TVJ and its core group of co-hosts and creative team would have the final say on the program which has been on air since July 1979.
TVJ reportedly said to the Jalosjos children, ‘Let’s give it a try,’ as per Babbler.
This alleged agreement prevented a potential major overhaul in the crucial lunchtime TV slot which would have left a gaping hole in the programming of the country’s biggest broadcast station, GMA Network of bilyonaryo Felipe L. Gozon.
The feud erupted when the Jalosjos children eased out TAPE’s co-founder and CEO Antonio Tuviera, who is a long-time ally of TVJ.
The family had threatened to “rebrand” the show by shedding TVJ and its creative team.
However, TVJ asserted ownership of the “Eat Bulaga” brand and considered bringing their gags and games to either TV5 of bilyonaryo Manny V. Pangilinan or Net25 of Iglesia Ni Cristo..
EB fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief and look forward to more of their favorite noontime show, thanks to this latest development.
