The water concessionaires owned by bilyonaryo Manny Pangilinan-led Maynilad and the Ayala-Razon owned Manila Water are at loggerheads over water supply from the La Mesa Dam just as demand rises due to hot weather.
Maynilad spokesman Ronald Padua said Manila Water is protesting the current sharing scheme which leaves the east zone concessionaire with less than 40% of water pumped out of La Mesa Dam. The agreement was based on the previous set-up that took into consideration the relative size of Maynilad’s customer base, which are located in the west zone of of greater Metro Manila.
Padua said Manila Water has filed a complaint this month telling Maynilad to scale down its share of supply from La Mesa dam. He, however, said their service would be affected if their water share dwindles.
“Ang consequent impact po nito ay liliit po yung aming pwedeng hugutin po na volume ng tubig sa La Mesa Portal. Kapag nangyari po yun, definitely magkakaroon po ito ng impact doon sa service level ng ating mga customers,” Padua said.
