Din Tai Fung founder Yang Bing-yi dies at 96, family requests private mourning

The founder of the popular restaurant chain Din Tai Fung, Yang Bing-yi, has passed away at 96 years old.

The cause of the death was not disclosed.

The family has requested privacy to mourn. Funeral arrangements are expected to be private.

The Taiwanese chain’s signature xiao long bao and noodle dishes have won over diners worldwide.

The franchise, which Yang established in 1927, has gained international recognition, with the Hong Kong branch receiving its first Michelin star in 2009 and the New York Times naming it one of the world’s top 10 gourmet restaurants.

With over 170 locations in 13 countries, Din Tai Fung has become synonymous with delicious and high-quality food.
