The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has inaugurated the largest passenger terminal building in the country at the Port of Calapan in Oriental Mindoro.
PPA general manager Jay Santiago said the new terminal boasts a passenger capacity of 3,500, which is nearly double the capacity of the old terminal, making it the perfect addition for the coming Holy Week, when many will utilize the country’s ports to travel to their provinces.
“Tuwing peak season, nasa humigit kumulang 12,000 ang pasaherong gumagamit ng pantalan araw-araw na kung minsan ay nasa labas ng lumang terminal ang mga naghihintay kaya naman inaasahan nating hindi na mangyayari ngayon ‘yan dahil mas malaki na ang kapasidad ng bagong passenger terminal building ng Calapan Port,” Santiago said.
Santiago said the Calapan port project is part of the PPA’s initiatives to enhance the convenience and comfort of sea-traveling passengers.
The new passenger terminal building features various amenities such as a playlot, nursing station/clinic, first aid clinic, prayer room, all-gender restroom, and is equipped with escalators and elevators for passengers.
Santiago said the PPA is always committed to prioritizing the welfare of passengers in its projects, and the public can expect more similar projects to be implemented in various places around the country
Before the Holy Week, Santiago is set to conduct inspections around different ports to ensure travelers and tourists’ safety during the peak season.
