Selfie for security: Here’s GCash’s latest strategy to prevent account hacking

Mobile wallet GCash has added a new security feature amid rampant reports of hacked accounts.

The Ayala-owned online bank announced its “Selfie Scan” feature that requires a live selfie of the account owner every time they use a different phone or device to log in to their e-wallet.

The new feature was rolled out amid viral online stories involving GCash users whose accounts were hacked after their phone was stolen or lost.

The fraudsters then wiped out the balance in the victim’s money and used the account to take out loans via the GLoan option.
