The Department of Transportation under Secretary Jaime Bautista is under fire yet again for another scandal at the country’s biggest airport.
An eagle-eyed air passenger spotted the entire scene where a security personnel at the Ninoy Aquino International Airpor (NAIA) took the wallet of a Thai national just as his bag was going through the x-ray machine at the NAIA Terminal 2.
When the Thai tourist asked for security footage, the staff claimed there was no CCTV in the area, but another foreigner managed to record the entire scene on his gadget.
The NAIA staffer reportedly took 20,000 yen, or about P8,000, from the Thai tourist and gave it back only after they were confronted with the video taken by the eyewitness. The staff put the cash in her colleague’s pocket, as clearly seen in this video.
According to the original post, they were taken to a room and blackmailed to delete the videos they took and were released only when they did. The man, however, managed to recover the video.
The two NAIA staff have been relieved from their posts. They were also suspended and will face charges.
“Diosmio lantaran man, are we this poor and lowly paid? Bring back the dignity!,” a netizen said.
Just a few weeks ago, airport personnel also drew flak for their unprofessional pat down of the members of the Korean boy group ENHYPEN.
