West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc., a joint venture between Pangilinan-led Metro Pacific Investments Corp. and the Consunji family’s DMCI Holdings, plans to cut water losses by 162 million liters per day (MLD) this year.
The targeted volume is enough to supply water needs for 162,000 people. It is equivalent to filling up 73 Olympic-size swimming pools daily.
Maynilad has allocated P4 billion this year for its non-revenue water management program, which aims to reduce physical and commercial water losses.
The program includes repairing 36,000 pipe leaks and replacing 180 kilometers of old pipes across parts of Caloocan, Quezon City, Valenzuela City, Malabon, Manila, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, and Imus and Kawit in Cavite province.
Maynilad chief operations officer Randolph Estrellado said that network upgrades are necessary to reduce water losses and increase water pressure in the distribution system, increasing available supply for distribution to its customers.
