Gov’t eyes regulation of go kart racing, surfing, darts

Aficionados of go kart racing, surfing and darts in the country could follow additional rules in playing the niche sports if the Games and Amusements Board’s (GAB) plan pushes through.

GAB chairman Richard Clarin bared plans to professionalize niche sports and put matches under the agency’s regulation.

“There are a lot of sports that are not yet under the provision or the mandate of GAB. We’re looking into kart racing, surfing and darts, and other sports that are being implemented but are not under GAB supervision,” he told CNN Philippines in an interview.

Among the games currently regulated by GAB include basketball, soccer, tennis, and horse racing. Professionalizing would mean imposing “synthesized rules and guidelines” on the conduct of sporting events to ensure the safety of athletes.
