Light Rail Manila Corp. expects the first phase of the LRT Line 1 Cavite Extension project to commence operations by the fourth quarter of next year.
LRMC spokesperson Jacqueline Gorospe said phase 1 covers seven kilometers of the 11-km. LRT-1 Cavite Extension, including the Redemptorist Station, MIA Station, Asiaworld Station, Ninoy Aquino Station and Dr. Santos Station.
The remaining stations between Las Piñas and Niog are targeted to kick off operations by 2027.
LRMC said the project, a joint venture with the Department of Transportation, would connect Baclaran in Parañaque City to Bacoor, Cavite. It is xpected to cut travel time between Baclaran and Bacoor to 25 minutes from 1 hour and 10 minutes, while beefing up the rrail line’s capacity from 500,000 to 800,000 passengers daily.
LRMC took over LRT 1 in September 2015.
The line runs from Baclaran in Pasay City to Munoz in Quezon City.
