Toyota is set to bring back its iconic Tamaraw Asian utility vehicle (AUV) to the Philippines, 16 years after its production was discontinued.
Marcos announced Toyota’s plan following his meeting with the Japanese carmaker’s executives during his working visit to Japan.
“Many of the Tamaraws you’ve built are still on the road,” the President told Toyota officials.
The Tamaraw cars have been a staple family and even public commuter vehicle for decades, which earned the moniker “FX” for passenger vans.
“It’s something we would like to revisit, simply because we have tried many utility vehicles for the military but they really have not been a success for us,” Marcos added.
The President also expressed openness to the possibility of Toyota supplying vehicles, such as its Mini-Cruiser, for the Philippine military.
