Jane Basas is one again taking the helm of Cignal TV, the country’s premier DTH (direct-to-home) satellite provider.
PLDT Group chairman Manny V. Pangilinan announced the appointment of Basas as president and CEO of Cignal TV, concurrently with her role as president and CEO of Mediaquest Holdings Inc.
Mediaquest is a wholly owned subsidiary of PLDT which owns TV5 and Cignal TV.
Her appointment comes following the retirement of Robert Galang, who headed Cignal TV and TV5 since 2020.
Basas previously served as Cignal TV president and CEO before she was appointed in 2020 as senior vice president for consumer individual wireless business of Smart Communications.
“We would like to thank Robert for his many years of dedicated service and for steering TV5 and Cignal to its current position of strength,” Basas said.
Cignal TV is currently the country’s pay television market leader with a subscriber base of 4.3 million.
Meanwhile, taking the place of Galang as president and CEO of TV5 is Guido Zaballero, who joined the Mediaquest Group as Cignal TV’s vice president and head of marketing in 2013.
“We welcome Guido as TV5’s new chief executive. With his proven track record of leadership through service and action, we are confident that he will take TV5 to the next level,” Basas said.
Over the past decade, Zaballero was instrumental in establishing Cignal TV’s market leadership, growing its subscriber base from 500,000 to 4.3 million.
